2014 Yearly Overview

2014

I believe that unarmed truth and unconditional love will have the final word in reality. ~Martin Luther King, Jr.~

As I write this, the sun’s magnetic field is about to flip upside down. Although this is something that happens roughly every 11 years, the fact that it is about to happen early in 2014 adds a little spice to the beginning of the year. Not only can this magnetic field reversal cause problems on earth with computers and communication networks, it can affect us on a personal level, as well – especially with things like our thinking processes and memory.

Overall, with the confluence of energies that are present, I expect that 2014 will be a year that tests what we think we believe – as individuals, in relationships, as societies, in religions, as economic systems. In short, we are individually and collectively being tested on what it means to be truly human.

We are moving deeper into a worldwide transformation that is giving birth to a new civilization, even though what this looks like is not yet entirely clear. Things that have worked in the past will work less and less well going forward. This is because more and more people are waking up. One by one, group by group, the collective mindset that becomes our worldview and reality is shifting. As this happens, just as day follows the night, the structures and systems that have supported us as a society and as a civilization must also shift or fall away. Indeed, we see this happening already.

Yes, 2014 is a testing year. I know this because issues we thought long settled are again up for review. Our values are being tested to see if we are willing to stand up for what we believe. Populist progressivism is at odds with reactionary forces that want us to return to the “good old days” that never were all that good, at least not for everyone. Issues of personal liberty versus the surveillance state, health care, the treatment of women around the world, gay marriage, how we organize the economy and distribute wealth, connectedness and unity versus separation, tribalism and privilege: all of these issues are roiling the waters of the collective consciousness as 2014 gets underway. And here’s the thing. It is important to remember that moving ahead in a testing year often requires a temporary loss of security to take a leap of faith into the unknown.

This is not to paint a gloomy picture. Many good and wonderful things are happening. The global economy is continuing to strengthen and will likely continue to do so throughout the year, barring some unforeseen catastrophic event. Alternative currencies such as Bitcoin are beginning to thrive. Scientific and technological innovation promises many new exciting developments, including more widespread application of 3D printing, and medical breakthroughs in a variety of fields such as bioresonance. Fully electric vehicles are inching toward the mainstream. In short, it could be a very exciting year.

A “2” Year

When I look at 2014 through the lens of Mystical Numerology, I look at three different numbers which represent the overall “umbrella” energies for the year and give a progressively deeper insight into what we can expect, in general.

First, remember that on 21-December-2012 a shift in ages occurred. The old Mayan Calendar ended, and a new cycle began. 2013 was year 1 of the new cycle, representing genesis and birth, when something entirely new began moving through the cosmic birth canal.

2014 is year 2, and it takes on the energy of a “2” year. This means that as the year unfolds, we will begin to get glimmers of what the energy shift of this new age is creating in our physical reality. Here’s a hint: we are experiencing the gradual dissolution of the mindset that created our current civilization. This will become clearer and more obvious as time goes on. But, the new energy has not yet put down firm roots. It is gaining power – and you will see its effects on the mass consciousness in increasingly more powerful ways – but it is still not fully born. You might say that 2014 is a year when we can more and more clearly observe what is being born as it comes into perceptual reality: within ourselves and others, in our relationships, and also in the larger social context of society, government, business, religion and on the worldwide geopolitical stage.

Those of you who expected a dramatic shift to occur on 21-December-2012 as the Mayan Calendar ended its 5200 year cycle are probably disappointed by now. But, take heart. Change happens gradually. It is the way of things, and it is a blessing that it is so. It allows us time to adapt ourselves to the shifts taking place – spiritually, mentally, emotionally and physically. In 2014, the vibration of everything and everyone is continuing to be raised to a higher level. What is new is gaining forward momentum but has not yet reached a critical mass – nor is it likely to do so for at least a few more years (at least until 2018). Still, more people are waking up and achieving greater self-awareness. If you are reading this, you are certainly one of them!

That said, it will be important to have a daily spiritual practice of clearing your energy field so that you can take full advantage of the new, higher energy. In doing this, you may also find other shifts taking place in your diet, your work, your relationships, where you choose to live, and so on. And remember, fundamental change is occurring. Be patient with yourself.

This year at the macro level, competing ideologies, worldviews and political factions will continue to compete in what is likely to be a messy and sometimes violent process as they strive to achieve a dynamic equilibrium. On the positive side, this year is about the social glue that holds us together. It highlights altruistic efforts, collective consent, personal liberty and the balance between security and setting appropriate boundaries, and also our connection to nature and ecological sustainability. On the negative side, we will likely continue to be plagued by disenchantment with government, paralysis by partisanship, social stress, religious fanaticism, regional conflicts and a potential for disruptive change.

A “14” Year

2014 is also the 14th year of the new century. As such, it takes on the energy of a “14” year. “14” is connected with the Mayan energy called “Kat” that represents the web, the energy matrix that connects all things. 2014 is a year of connections, relationships and networking. Its magnetic energy enables us to draw to ourselves whatever resources and people are required, and to activate the life experience needed to accomplish our visions and goals.

Of course, everything has two sides. The same power that can be used to draw people and needed resources to ourselves can also tangle us up in the web that we, ourselves, have spun from such ingredients as self-doubt, lack of trust, envy, the need for control, jealousy, anger, resentment, and so on. But, life brings blessings even in adversity. “Kat” represents the difficult problems in our lives or in our society but it also brings the energy needed to escape, transform or transcend them. This is a big blessing because it means that well-meaning, serious people can find solutions this year despite the forces that seek to gum up the works.

2014 is a good time to make connections with others, and for networking to promote personal or business goals. This year can be a vibrant, life-enhancing time during which you feel more articulate. This makes it an auspicious time for negotiations, and also the mediation of disputes – especially since the positive side of the“14” energy promotes fairness and peace. This is also a year that highlights cooperation and efforts to be supportive, nurturing, and maybe a little protective of family, friends and coworkers. If you feel the call to take a moral stance in support of humanitarian issues, this is the year to step forward.

This is a year that strengthens objective judgment, and is a good time for setting goals and making plans. 2014 is also about structure and organization, so it is a great year to set some very practical, grounded, concrete goals including ones for physical action, undertaking a renovation or remodeling project, or beginning to build something new.

The energy of 2014 supports individuality, individual excellence and making personal gains. It is also the energy of leadership and fame. It may be the time for you to step forward, knowing that the overall energy will bring you the support you need, and aid you in harvesting all that you intend, focus on, and work toward.

Downside: This year, you can also get tied up in the problems of life, and caught up in relationship dramas. The challenge is to move forward and not get stuck.

Watch out for controlling behaviors, dogmatism, and judgmentalism. They can lead you into the trap. Indeed, the energy of the year can spawn a time of compulsion, drivenness and one-upmanship. If you are experiencing any of these, it is likely that life is asking you to do some inner housekeeping and sweep out the dark corners.

If you do get pulled into the trap this year, remember that it is for the purpose of teaching you a necessary lesson. The good news is that once you understand the lesson, the key to your release will also be given. Once you remember that the “14” energy for the year is the web that connects you with All-That-Is and gives you the power to attract all that you need, you are free once again!

A “7” Year

Finally, 2014 is also a “7” year (2+0+1+4 = 7). The “7” is connected with the Mayan energy called “Noj” that represents the knowledge and wisdom that comes from the universe and the Earth. It is the energy of telepathy and “knowing” without consciously knowing how you know.

The “7” year is often a time of mental creativity, and it can manifest in two ways: receptive and active – and both can manifest at different times during the year. On the receptive side, it can be a time for marshaling your inner resources and energy in preparation for moving ahead in a more powerful, focused way in the future. It is a favorable time for introspection, reflection and learning new things, a good time for nourishing your mind and improving your memory. Throughout 2014, you can strengthen and hone your inner knowing by asking yourself questions and then listening to your inner guidance for the answers, something that can be a nice addition to your daily practice.

The “7” year can also be more active. If is the case, you will feel it. The “7” energy can bestow an ability to visualize the next steps on your path. It can be a good time to initiate new projects and ideas. You may feel energized with the personal determination and drive to achieve whatever goals you set for yourself. This is a good thing as long as you take care not to overdo it! … Also, in your enthusiasm, guard against being directive, divisive or envious, all of which are energies that can derail you in a “7” year.

Generally, the “7” year is also one during which you will be guided to develop greater trust in yourself, in life, and in the Creator – sometimes (though certainly not always) through a period of inner struggle. It is important not to let yourself get too serious, or become overzealous in your work, to put too much effort into whatever is your focus, and to hold on when you should let go. You will know when your level of trust is increasing when you allow yourself to experience joyfulness, and become more genial, playful and carefree. A good practice during this time is to start each day by filling yourself up with the feeling of joy!

Downside: The energy can pull inward. People often become introspective. What is out of balance or karmic comes to the surface to be recognized. Whatever is out of balance in your relationships suddenly can be seen. In fact, it can give you a good head slap. This can be a good time for harmonizing relationships but also brings the possibility for broken hearts.

Obstacles arise in your path and blockages appear to be dealt with. This can cause you to feel inadequate or inferior or forlorn. You can be overcome with fatigue and apathy, and just simply turned off. You can withdraw and become a loner. If this happens, know that it is part of a natural cycle and will pass.

Alternately, you can find yourself being foolish, absentminded or illogical. You may start to rush and fall into hurry-worry. This can lead to psychic distress and irritability.

On a collective level, the “7” year can be a time when karmic scales get balanced. It can bring radical change, social upheaval and rebellion. Some of these things will certainly occur around the world. As you observe it, the challenge is to remember that the overall collective energy is moving forward as more and more people continue to wake up. 2014 is only the second year of the new age that is dawning. Lots of good stuff is on the horizon.
