2016 Presidential Candidates – A Mystical Numerology Analysis

2016 Candidates

Introduction

This has been an unprecedented, crazy 2016 presidential election cycle in the U.S. that has crossed every line and broken every rule of civil discourse. If you are reading this, I imagine that you will agree that we’ve never seen anything like it before in your lifetime. Hopefully, we will never see it ever again.

It is a “9” Universal Year energy (2+0+1+6 = 9), and “9” years reinforce the inherent qualities that we all individually have. This is true also for each of the presidential candidates. This can make it a powerful time when your life feels more “on purpose,” and on-track. But, it also works with the negative personality characteristics. If you are naturally nasty, narcissistic, racist, and misogynistic, or are a blowhole, are materialistic, power-hungry, don’t play well with others, and in the race mostly for yourself and your ego, this is a year that will magnify your character flaws – especially because you are a candidate running for the highest office of the land, and have a national media presence to broadcast your comments, thoughts and ideas.

The other thing about a “9” Year is that it is a harvesting year. You harvest the fruits of past deeds – and misdeeds. Each of us is experiencing this to differing degrees in our own lives, as are each of the candidates.

A “9” year brings things back around. This includes the reappearance of people and relationships that seemed no longer part of your life, and issues that you thought were mostly settled. On a collective level, this is certainly the case as difficult issues resurface as tests, issues such as race relations, women’s rights, gender inequality, abortion, voting rights, police brutality, the pervasive power of big banks and big business, and the growing gap between rich and poor.

A few of these issues we thought, if not completely settled, that at least we had made significant progress in a positive direction. This year, all of these issues are up for review, and in our faces again as reactionary forces work to turn the clock back to the 1950s. A “9” year is like that. It tests what we say we stand for – individually and collectively. It gives a chance to choose once again the kind of society we wish to have. The energy of this year brings up our worst fears, but it also gives us the opportunity to make a monumental shift as we step forward – if we are mature enough to have it.

One additional note about a “9” year: it brings serious challenges to the entrenched “establishment” by “anti-establishment” energy. It pits traditionalist or conservative values against progressive or liberal ones. We see this playing out in both the Republican and Democratic nomination races. Trump is the clear anti-establishment outsider on the Republican side, and Bernie Sanders, as a self-proclaimed Democratic Socialist, is playing this same role on the Democratic side. From a big-picture level, this classic outsider versus insider challenge is another way the “9” year energy tests us on collectively held beliefs. We get to reaffirm current beliefs and policies, or throw some of the old beliefs aside to try out new ones.

This, then, is the backdrop against which the 2016 presidential race is taking place.

Let us take a look at each of the remaining major candidates in the race. I will start with a Mystical Numerology overview and analysis of the two Democratic Party candidates: Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders. I will follow up with the Republican Party candidates that are still standing: Donald Trump, Ted Cruz, and John Kasich.

Mystical Numerology Energies and Terminology: There is a definition of terms at the end of the article if you need it.

The Democrats

In any discussion of Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders, the first thing to note is that there are a lot of energetic similarities in their charts. They are actually more energetically alike than they are different.

For instance, “6” is the number of the “People,” and both share a “6” Soul Purpose. This number also shows that relationships are important to them. Both Clinton and Sanders need to feel a sense of belonging to be in balance.

“8” is the number of the Leader. It bestows competence, ability and power, and generally brings good fortune. Both Hillary and Bernie have an “8” Life Path, meaning that the “8” energy has a lot to do with how they do what they do in the world. It can give them the needed energy to be pioneering and outspoken. Equally important is that the positive aspect of the “8” is also about integrity, love and faith.

Both also have a “13” Legacy Number. “13” is the number of the “Builder” and of the “Community.” It is the number of “Life,” and procreation. It shows an ability to find middle ground and joint solutions. It is the number of group destiny, social harmony and world peace. But, it also bestows the boldness and power to make paradigm shifts, big changes that reorient or redefine how we think about the world. These are good qualities to have in a President at this crucial time of accelerating change.

The combination of the “6” and “13” energies in the charts of Clinton and Sanders tells me that they aren’t in this election purely for themselves. Both of them want to do something for the people. In contrast, these important energies are missing in the charts of both Donald Trump and Ted Cruz. This makes me suspicious that service to the people is not their primary motivation, and that there is something more self-serving going on.

By the way, “Democrat” is a “9” energy, and 2016 is a “9” year. This bodes well for electing a Democrat to the White House in November.

Hillary Rodham Clinton

Hillary Clinton’s Mystical Numerology chart shows that she has a strong connection with the people, and an interest in building strong communities and a strong society. She carries the energy to be not only a leader (her “8” Path), but also an inspired one. This is because she has strong “11” energy. This Master Number shows up as both her Life Purpose and as her fully adult Power. “11” is the energy of the trailblazer, change agent, reformer, healer and teacher. It gives her creativity, adds to her ability to reach out to connect with the people, and to carry a mass movement forward (even if it is Bernie Sanders who started it!).

To both her credit and detriment, Hillary Clinton is more grounded and pragmatic than Bernie Sanders. It is important to her to know the fundamental answers to important questions, and how to get things done. Indeed, putting ideas into action and getting things done is how she shows her love for people. It is simply how she is wired at a core level of her being. It’s why she traveled more miles than any other previous Secretary of State.

This pragmatic quality is a good thing, and would make for a hard-working President. But, this same pragmatic quality makes her a less inspiring campaigner than Bernie Sanders is today, or Barack Obama was in 2008. I’m sure that Hillary Clinton wonders why people don’t see her innate practicality as a bigger virtue.

Her chart shows that Hillary Clinton really wants to connect with people, but has a tough time doing it on an emotional level. Being a little less serious, and more emotionally present is a growth area for her.

Hillary Clinton’s “modes of perception” profile shows her to be quite intuitive, a creative thinker, not prone to get emotionally stuck, and someone who has a need to take action on a physical level in support of people and relationships. This is actually a profile that many people would wish to have.

The Shadow: The major downside to Clinton’s energetic profile is the potential to get trapped in materialism and power games. Particularly as a woman in American politics, mastery of both money and power has been required to generate her impressive resume. Yet, it is also why people question her motives. They sense that she is not quite as selfless as Bernie Sanders, and this is probably true. The potential to be seduced by the dark side is definitely there. My bet is that what people read as insincerity is actually a product of two things: 1) A hunger to be the first woman president and break that loftiest of glass ceilings in American politics; and 2) an awkwardness in connecting with people on an emotional level.

In spite of this, her overall chart shows that Hillary Clinton can be a good president who will work hard on behalf of the people.

Energies for 2016: The force of Destiny is pulling Hillary Clinton forward this year. She is carrying the kind of powerful energies that show she has a very good chance to win the presidency – an “11” Year Purpose (the Connector), a “5” Year Path (the Bridge), a “7” Opportunity (Achievement), and an “8” Focus (Power & Leadership). That said, the “5” and “11” combination also make things changeable, so it is going to be a wild ride with Bernie Sanders nipping at her heels most of the way to the convention in July.

Bernie Sanders

It is helpful to see Bernie Sanders against the backdrop of American history that included many influential progressives and democratic socialists. Most Americans have forgotten this important part of our history, but the activists of the past are responsible for many of the rights we take for granted today such as: the right to form unions, a progressive income tax, the federal minimum wage, social security and pensions, the eight-hour workday, and government subsidized healthcare. As Peter Dreier noted in a 2015 article, “The radical ideas of one generation are often the common sense of the next.”

If you are interested in reading more about the influential progressives and socialists that are an important part of American history, here is a link to Peter Dreier’s overview: https://www.thenation.com/article/fifty-most-influential-progressives-twentieth-century/

In this context, Bernie Sanders is an important voice for economic and social justice in our age. But he is part of a long tradition of activists, and stands firmly on the shoulders of earlier generations of radicals and reformers who changed the status quo of their day.

From a Mystical Numerology standpoint, Bernie also has the “8” energy of competence, ability and leadership. It shows up in the two most prominent places in his chart: his Life Purpose and Path. He also carries the “11” energy as his Power Number. This enables him to connect with people to create an outcry against the massive level of wealth and income inequality in America, and carry forward the movement for economic and social justice, a movement that Bernie is calling a political revolution. The “11” is the trailblazer, change agent and reformer. Sanders is all of these.

As previously noted, both Bernie Sanders and Hillary Clinton carry this trailblazer energy, and no matter which one becomes the Democratic candidate for president, they both would be breaking new ground. If elected, Bernie Sanders would be the first Jewish president and, turning 75 in September, the oldest to assume office (Ronald Reagan was 69). Hillary Clinton would become the first woman president.

Bernie Sanders’ Mayan Birth energy, “6 Aqabal,” is the energy of endings and beginnings, and this is reinforced by his “13” Legacy Number because Aqabal and the number “13” are linked. It is no surprise that Sanders is calling for an end to the economic policies that create income inequality and polarization of wealth, and the beginning of greater fairness (e.g. breaking up the big banks, diminishing the power of Wall Street, getting corporations and the wealthy to pay their fair share of taxes, and so on). His “13” Legacy Number is also about working for the community, finding joint solutions, building something practical that will lead to greater economic fairness and social justice for all the people.

Bernie Sanders has a “12” Drive Number that makes him both a visionary, and high-energy campaigner. Coupled with the “7” energy he has for his Opportunity Number, this gives him lots of personal determination to move forward in the face of obstacles, as he has repeatedly demonstrated in the campaign. Everyone counted him out in the beginning, especially since he wasn’t taking money from Wall Street or big money people. In spite of this perceived disadvantage, he has raised over $185 million from 7 million small donors. Politicians can never again say that they have to be beholden to big money donors. Bernie has shown us all another way.

Bernie Sanders is both more emotional and intuitive than is Hillary Clinton. With an “E” as first vowel, the emotional energy, Sanders is able to more easily connect with people at a heart level. Clinton may be no less sincere, but she has a more difficult time connecting. Also, being more intuitive, Sanders has the ability to tap into the mass consciousness of our time, and this makes him a sparkplug who can ignite the passion of the people. His energetic profile shows him to be an explorer who pushes up against the boundaries on behalf of the people. He has an altruistic energy that shows that what he does is for selfless purposes. He is a good change-maker, and people naturally trust him.

The Shadow: Bernie Sanders can sometimes come across as a gruff, angry old man who his detractors see as impractical. He is less grounded than Hillary Clinton, and this gives rise to questions about how he would implement his ideas if elected, and especially if he were to face the kind of opposition that Barack Obama has had to deal with during his presidency.

Energies for 2016: Bernie Sanders also has very powerful energies for 2016. His Year Purpose is an “8” (Leadership & Power). His Year Path is an “11” (The Connector). His Opportunity and Task numbers are both “10s” that have helped him launch a credible campaign and push forward new ideas. His Mayan Year energy is 3 Tijax, and this gives him the power to go to the heart of things and cut away what is holding him (and us) back; it also gives him the potential to be a powerful healer.

His challenge for this year is that he is really not in control of the energies that are propelling him forward. He is a channel for something larger, and his candidacy is like riding a tiger. How far the tiger will take him is anyone’s guess, but his monthly energies are slightly less powerful than Hillary Clinton’s. It’s going to be very close, but it looks like Bernie’s road may come to an end at the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia July (25-28). If I were a betting man, I’d wager that Hillary takes the nomination.

Donald John Trump

Donald Trump is an enigma when it comes to his Mystical Numerology chart. His numbers show great power and potential that could be used for good purposes. His Life Purpose and Opportunity Numbers are both “8s,” the energy of Leadership and Power. “8” is also the number of pioneering and entrepreneurship, and also of competence, ability, and integrity. “8” is also the number of collaboration, teams, community ties and love – all aspects that Trump seems to be lacking.

His Path number is a “9,” the number of the Decision-Maker, Executive, Extrovert, and is also the number of Fortune – all of which makes perfect sense when compared with the man. Yet, people with the “9” energy are also quite often caretakers, diplomats, and compassionate leaders who promote community values and social cooperation. They are people who build foundations by believing in their dreams and making them a practical reality. None of these qualities fit comfortably with what we are seeing with Donald Trump as candidate. He may well believe in his own dreams, but he is not a builder – despite his own protestations to the contrary. Indeed, his rhetoric is divisive and, like George Wallace in the 1968 election, seeks to play on the worst fears of a frustrated public. He sews the seeds of separation and, through his words and actions, tears things down rather than building things up.

His Legacy Number is a “7” and this gives him drive, personal determination, and the desire to be an authority. The “7” – “9” combination leads to him being an authoritarian figure.

His Soul Purpose, Power and Passion Numbers are all “12s.” This is the number of business, salesmanship, deal-making, and the energy of the fearless and self-assured risk-taker and crusader – qualities that are on display in the man we see as Donald Trump, the candidate. Other aspects of the “12” include service, honesty, fair play, and social justice. These more positive qualities seem to be sadly lacking from the man we see as the potential Republican nominee.

The “12” is the initiator and inspirer, the person of big dreams who has the ability to take us in new directions. And, for all of his bluster, it can be said that Trump is doing this quite effectively. We just don’t like the direction he is taking us. He has shattered the Republican Party and the conservative movement in America. It is clear that in the post-Trump era, the Republican Party will have to recreate and redefine itself. Maybe this will turn out to be a good thing. Lord knows, the values of the Tea-Party hijacked Republican Party are causing honest Abe Lincoln, the first Republican president, to turn over and over in his grave.

Donald Trump is, by nature, a doer, who values getting into action. The old business adage, “Ready, Fire, Aim,” fits him well. He is intuitive, shoots from the hip, and has a tendency to scatter his energies in too many directions at once. He is a fluid and adaptable thinker, but he also puts a virtual wall around his emotions. While he may be good at telling people where they stand with him, he is not comfortable with revealing how he genuinely feels about things. This is one of the reasons that he always attacks his critics and detractors. If he can keep his opponents off-balance, and make the conversation about them, he won’t have to reveal his own insecurities.

Like Bernie Sanders, Donald Trump’s Mayan Birthdate is “Aqabal,” the energy of endings and beginnings. When the positive side of this energy is used, it can be the catalyst for great good. Perhaps, in revealing the darkness that still exists in our society, Trump is bringing the potential for more light and greater good by showing us what needs healing. If that’s the case, then Trump will have been true to his Mayan Birth energy.

The Shadow: The darker side of Donald Trump is his narcissism (10 Year Purpose at birth), his egotistical, misogynistic and authoritarian qualities (all “9” shadow aspects), and the fact that he is an unrepentant serial liar (a “7” shadow aspect). The divisiveness and ability to play on the fear and anger of the voters are shadow aspects of the “7”–“12” combination in his chart.

I read recently that Republicans argue that President Obama’s executive actions have been a threat to constitutional order (even though Obama has issued far less executive orders than his Republican predecessors). The executive order Republicans are really referring to is the one that protects some 5 million undocumented immigrants from deportation.

If it were true that Obama’s executive orders are truly a threat to constitutional order, just pause to consider what Donald Trump might do as President with the similar executive powers. He would also have the wide-ranging powers of the Justice Department to use if he felt similarly blocked by Congress (as Obama has), or – and this is the real scary one – if he felt personally aggrieved. He has demonstrated no ability to restrain his natural impulse to bully anyone he considers to be an opponent or adversary. What do you imagine he would he do as President?

Energies for 2016: Trump has powerful energies for 2016, especially as compared to the other Republican candidates for the nomination. His Year Purpose is a “44/8” and “44” is the number of “power.” His Year Path is a “7” which gives him the personal drive and determination to overcome obstacles, especially in combination with his “15” Year Focus that adds follow-through and at least some modicum of practicality. His Mayan Year is “”9 Aj,” an energy that gives him influence with his block of disenfranchised voters. His Attainment and Task Numbers are both “9s,” another factor that is propelling him to the forefront in 2016, a “9” year. Sadly, the shadow side of the “7” and “9 Aj” combination is intolerance, divisiveness and a crusading rebelliousness. I believe that Donald Trump actually began his campaign as a protest candidate, and then got caught up in his ego.

As powerful as his numbers are for this year, there are limits. His monthly energies forecast a bleed-off of the early energy and momentum of his campaign, especially after Mars goes retrograde April 17 and remains retrograde through the Republican National Convention in Cleveland, July 18-21. His Mystical Numerology chart confirms that it is going to be tough going for Trump through the convention. Should he somehow happen to emerge from the convention as the Republican candidate, it could be bad news. I think that Hillary or Bernie would still win (their numbers are slightly stronger), but he could actually give either of them a serious run for their money. And it would be emotionally exhausting for the country – well, at least for me and many of my friends!

Rafael Edward “Ted” Cruz

Rafael Edward “Ted” Cruz has an “A” for the first vowel of his birth name. And, in truth, he acts more like a “Rafael” than a “Ted” which has an emotional and expressive “E” for the first vowel. The first vowel says something about how a person processes information and views the world. The “A” in “Rafael” is mental energy. As a first vowel, it gives Cruz a quick mind and a logical way of looking at the world. It makes him smart. But there are two downsides.

First, it detracts from his ability to be spontaneous. He likes to have everything thought through and planned out, especially with a “4” Opportunity Number (another mental energy). Running against someone like Donald Trump who is very spontaneous and shoots from the hip, it puts Cruz at a disadvantage.

Second, the “A” as first vowel tends to make Cruz a purist who sees life in stark contrasts of white and black, Christian and all others, people who have been “saved,” thank ya Jesus, and all the others who are going to hell. Perhaps this is about what you’d expect from a man raised by a father who became an Evangelical Christian preacher after having a “born-again” experience. It was Cruz’s father who also told his son, “God has destined you for greatness.” And, this has obviously had a profound formative impact on Ted Cruz. Indeed, he has told his supporters that he is a Christian first, American second. For a potential leader of the free world, sworn to uphold the constitution, one wonders if being a “Christian first” wouldn’t be extremely problematic. It essence, it seems that Cruz wants to be the first “Preacher-in-Chief.”

“Ted” Cruz has a “19” Life Purpose number – the number of duty, and of the “Guru.” You can see that in how Cruz campaigns. He approaches it as if it is his duty to save American from its sinful ways (in his mind), and he’s destined to be the savior.

He has a “10” Drive number and a Mayan Birthday of “4 Ajpu,” and Ajpu is also connected with the number “10.” The positive aspect of the “10” energy makes him a seeker after clarity, meaning and understanding. “10s” want answers. It gives Cruz a drive to be an organizer and energizer, and to show others “the way.” The “10” energy supports rational analysis and is a good combination to have with the “A” first vowel energy that gives him a sharp mind.

This “10” energy also gives a connection to prophecy and the angelic realms which can be quite positive. But, if your grounding has been in fundamentalist evangelical Christianity, it can also be a problem – especially if you are a purist. Then, if you are driven to give people a direction, especially if you have been destined by God to do so, then “the way” is a narrow path that excludes Muslims and other faiths. And, if showing people “the way” means bombing Syria and ISIS back to the Stone Age, then so be it! Never mind the core teachings of Jesus being about love.

These tendencies are amplified by his “21” Life Path, which is the energy of “guidance,” as in receiving guidance from God that he is destined for greatness. The “21’ can be a very positive energy, but in the case of Rafael Edward “Ted” Cruz, it adds to his delusions of grandeur.

Cruz has a “9” as a Legacy Number, and 2016 is a “9” year. His Year Purpose at birth is also a “9.” This energy can be about building foundations. It is the number of the executive and good fortune. It is also the number of the caretaker and diplomat. But, as with Donald Trump, this is also the “authoritarian,” especially with his “19” Life Purpose Number (the Guru).

His Power Number is a “13” which is the number of life and community and building something positive. I actually believe that Cruz himself believes that he is building a better way for the country. Unfortunately, the shadow of the “13” energy lies in fanaticism. If you don’t think this applies to Ted Cruz, consider that he is, by his own party’s admission, the most disliked man in the U.S. Senate. He doesn’t play well with others, and the reason he doesn’t is because he is fanatically devoted to showing people the right way, the Christian way and, by God, the only way. It’s what led him, as a Tea Party activist, almost single-handedly to shut down the government over a political dispute he could not win. This highlights his fanaticism but doesn’t reflect well on either his judgment or sense of restraint.

One of Ted Cruz’s Life Lessons is the “6,” and this is also his Tension Number. Remember, the “6” is about relationships and the people. It is no wonder that he is not well liked by his peers, and has a difficult time really connecting with people – at least not with people who don’t have evangelical or fundamentalist Christian leanings.

Shadow: I’ve integrated comments on the shadow aspects in with the main discussion because I couldn’t help myself. So, I will skip to his prospects for winning the nomination.

Energies for 2016: His Year Purpose is a “10” and his Year Path is a “13.” Both of these are powerful energies for launching something new, like putting together a national campaign. His Mayan Year Energy, “11 Keme,” is propulsive and gives him a boost, and it is also connected with the overall “9” energy for 2016. For these reasons, I can see why Cruz has made it as far as he has against Donald Trump.

That said, Trump has the somewhat more powerful numbers. My prediction is that it’s going to be a long slog for Cruz. He may very well block Trump from getting the 1236 bound delegates needed to win on the first ballot at the Republican National Convention. But, Cruz will have to win a floor fight to beat Trump. He has the organizing skills to accomplish this, but he doesn’t play well with others. If he actually wins the nomination, it will be because there is absolutely no alternative left to the Republican establishment.

Only one thing is for certain. It’s going to be entertaining.

John Richard Kasich

John Kasich is only still relevant to the 2016 election because of the very real prospect of a contested convention. The next two rounds of primaries on April 26 and May 1 will tell us more about how relevant he remains. I will save a Mystical Numerology analysis of Kasich until after then.

For now, suffice it to say that when Trump, Cruz and Kasich are in the same room, John Kasich is the only real adult. He is devoted to ideological conservatism in the way that Republicans should be proud of. He also has a heart, a track record, and the demonstrated ability to practice restraint and call “bullshit,” when necessary. In any other year, this might mean something more than it does in 2016.

We will have to wait to see what happens, but if Kasich were somehow to be chosen as a white knight at the Republican Convention in July, I would not be displeased.

Mystical Numerology Energies and Terminology

Here is a definition of a few of the Mystical Numerology terms, the boring stuff that I am parking here so I don’t have to define all the terms when I’m describing each of the presidential candidates. It is something you can come back to if necessary to reacquaint yourself with one of the terms. Use it as a resource, if needed.

  • Purpose Numbers: We each have an outer Life Purpose and an inner Soul Purpose. Both say something about “why” we are here in this life at this time. The Life Purpose has more to do with our outer actions. The Soul Purpose is like a higher purpose or something we carry in our heart-of-hearts as an inner motivation.
  • Mayan Birth Day: This adds another perspective to an individual’s purpose.
  • Life Path: The Path number offers insight into “how” our Purpose will unfold.
  • Legacy Number: This number says something important about what we will leave behind us when we transition out of the body. It often has an important connection with our work in the world.
  • Drive: This is the overall motivation that fuels our actions. It “drives” us to walk our path in order to achieve our purpose.
  • First Vowel: defines how we tend to interact with the world, and gather input. The first vowel is like the lenses we look through to see the world around us.
  • First Letter & First Letter Total: gives insight to the outer personality.
  • Power: A number that defines the fully-mature, adult power.
  • Opportunity: A combination of Life Purpose and Life Path numbers; it shows how best to balance the two energies.
  • Passion: The pathway of greatest energy flow that defines an individual’s passion or individuality.
  • Modes of Perception: A comprehensive look at how the individual interacts with the world.
  • Life Lesson: an important lesson in earlier life; generally integrated by mid-40s.
  • Tension Number: An energy that highlights an area of friction in a person’s life.
  • Missing Vowels: Areas of development.
  • Temporary Energies: Year Purpose, Year Path, Mayan Year, Year Opportunity, Attainment and Task Cycles, and current challenge – all give insight into the current energy for the individual in question and, of course, have a bearing on their fortunes.

Comments

  1. That was a very interesting read, John, thank you for sharing this with us all. It remains to be seen what the outcome of this election is going to be but you’re certainly giving us some valuable insights into each candidate’s character. Personally, I’m very disillusioned about politics, especially American politics. We all know how corporate money rules just about everything, aided by a kind of showbizz mentality which is completely geared to short attention spans and what looks immediate and sensational. America is one very sick nation and unfortunately, very powerful and influential. (although the latter is beginning to change)
I have more hope for the shift in consciousness which has already begun, indeed I believe it is the only thing that can save us now. I pray for us to soon reach the critical mass needed to tip the balance! Blessings!
